Patimat.app interview under
Community Favorite.
Co-Founder Umut Çakırtaş shares the story, vision and social impact behind Patimat.app.
Why did Patimat.app resonate?
Patimat.app is not only an application; it is a digital meeting point that strengthens solidarity, trust and coordination for animal welfare. Throughout the interview, Umut Çakırtaş explains the startup’s origin story, user experience, AI approach and growth vision.
01. What does being selected as the “Community Favorite” by the YDG Türkiye community mean for the Patimat team?
Patimat is not only a technology startup; it is a social impact platform that brings people working for animal welfare around a shared purpose. Being selected as the “Community Favorite” by the YDG Türkiye community means much more than an award for us. It shows that our vision of creating technology-driven solutions for animal welfare has resonated with the community. It also increases our visibility and opens the door to new collaborations. One of the most meaningful pieces of feedback we received was that many people started to see Patimat not merely as an app, but as a digital solidarity network for animals.
02. How would you describe Patimat in one sentence to someone who has never heard of it?
Patimat is a platform that brings pet owners, animal lovers, veterinarians and service providers together in a single digital ecosystem, making animal welfare more accessible and sustainable.
03. What need gave birth to the Patimat idea?
For me, Patimat’s story is not only a startup story; it is also an emotional journey. I founded Patimat after losing my cat Behlül, who had a very special place in my life. While caring for Behlül’s health, daily needs and wellbeing, I closely experienced many of the challenges pet owners face. After losing him, I realized that pet owners, animal lovers, veterinarians and people who want to help are all working for the same purpose, yet they often have to do so through disconnected platforms. Patimat emerged from the love and sense of responsibility Behlül left with me. Our goal is not only to build an app, but to create an ecosystem where people can access everything they need for their animal friends and where solidarity and social impact can grow.
04. In which needs do pet owners and animal lovers experience a fragmented journey?
Today, a user has to use one platform to find a veterinarian, another app for adoption, social media for lost pet announcements, and separate tools for care tracking. This causes both time loss and trust problems. Patimat gathers this fragmented structure under one roof. Users can manage many needs within the same ecosystem, from health tracking and community support to adoption and lost pet announcements. This makes processes faster, more accessible and more reliable.
05. What can a user do when they enter Patimat for the first time?
Imagine you are a new pet owner. After registering on Patimat, you can create a profile for your companion, track vaccination and care processes, discover nearby veterinarians and service providers, communicate with communities and access the information you need. You can also browse adoption announcements, follow lost pet alerts or join community initiatives to support stray animals. Our goal is to help users manage all the processes they need within one seamless experience.
06. Which solution best represents Patimat’s character?
The structure that best represents Patimat’s character today is its community and digital coordination approach. Our goal is not only to provide information, but to help people take action. Ensuring that a lost pet announcement reaches the right people, that an adoption process happens safely, or that support for an animal in need is organized quickly forms the core value proposition of Patimat. We use technology to help people and institutions collaborate more effectively.
We position Patimat not just as an app, but as an ecosystem where people can access what they need for their animal friends and where solidarity and social impact can grow.
Detailed questions and answers
A deeper view of the product, impact model and growth strategy from the co-founder’s perspective.
07. What is the main factor that differentiates Patimat?
Patimat’s differentiating factor is that it does not focus on only one specific problem; it brings all stakeholders around animal welfare together in the same ecosystem. We are not just a listing app, only a care app, or only a community platform. We are building a structure that creates a digital bridge between pet owners, veterinarians, volunteers, municipalities and service providers. This allows users to meet their needs from one central point instead of switching between different platforms.
08. Who does Patimat create value for?
Our strongest user groups are pet owners and animal lovers. While we make care processes easier for pet owners, we make support and solidarity mechanisms more visible for animal lovers. We provide a more accessible communication channel for veterinary clinics, access to volunteer and donation networks for NGOs, and digital coordination opportunities for municipalities. In the long term, we aim to create a structure where all stakeholders can generate value together within the same ecosystem.
09. How are data and artificial intelligence used in Patimat?
We use artificial intelligence to help users access information faster and manage their processes more efficiently. Solutions such as PatiBox AI can guide users on basic questions and direct them to the right resources. However, we especially emphasize that AI does not replace veterinarians. In critical health-related situations, we always direct users to professional support. Reliability and user safety are among our core priorities in the use of artificial intelligence.
10. How do you measure social impact?
We want to measure Patimat’s impact not only by user numbers, but by the real benefit it creates. For this reason, we prioritize indicators such as adoption processes, announcements that contribute to finding lost animals, volunteering activities, community participation and support efforts. In the long term, we aim to build a data-driven impact model that can measure how each connection we create contributes to animal welfare.
11. How does Patimat position itself within green transformation?
Green transformation is not only about energy or production processes. More efficient resource use, social solidarity and the protection of living beings are also important parts of this transformation. Through digital coordination, Patimat aims to reduce resource waste by bringing those in need together with people and institutions that can provide support more quickly. With its structure that strengthens local communities and improves animal welfare, Patimat aims to contribute to more sustainable urban life.
12. How can collaborations grow Patimat’s impact?
Patimat’s greatest strength comes from collaborations. Through partnerships with veterinary clinics, universities, municipalities, NGOs and private sector brands, it is possible to reach more users and more animals. The model we currently prioritize is pilot projects that start locally and create measurable impact. For this reason, we are especially open to developing projects with municipalities, universities and organizations working in animal welfare.
13. How is your revenue model shaped?
At Patimat, we approach social benefit and sustainability together. Our long-term revenue model consists of veterinary appointment systems, corporate collaborations, premium services and value-added services within the ecosystem. Our main priority is to protect user trust. Therefore, we design our revenue models in a way that does not disrupt user experience and supports the platform’s social impact mission.
14. What was your most instructive failure?
Our biggest lesson was realizing that when developing a product, understanding user behavior is as necessary as technology. In the early stages, we saw that the features users needed did not always match what we assumed. This taught us the importance of collecting more user feedback, going into the field and supporting decisions with data. Today, user experience sits at the center of our product development approach.
15. What developments would make you happy in the next 12–24 months?
Three developments will be critical for us over the next two years: Patimat reaching an active and strong community ecosystem; successful pilot collaborations with municipalities, universities and veterinary clinics coming to life; and measurable impact indicators that directly contribute to animal welfare being reported regularly. If these three areas move forward, we will clearly feel that we are progressing in the right direction.
16. What is your message to YDG Türkiye?
We would like to thank everyone who supported Patimat, voted for us and believed in our story. The growth of social impact startups is possible not only through the work of founders, but also through the support of communities. We invite all institutions, entrepreneurs and volunteers who want to create value together in animal welfare to join the Patimat ecosystem. Because stronger impact can only be created together.
